SHAH ALAM: Corporate figure Rozali Ismail has expressed his intention to venture into politics by setting up a new party to represent today’s generation of settlers, especially those under Felda.

The Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd executive chairman said the idea came about after the Felda Generation Vision Alliance’s (GWGF) annual general meeting yesterday tabled a motion for the alliance to study the possibility of setting up an “All Malaysian Felda Family” party, to become a voice for settlers.

“This motion will be forwarded to the GWGF top management council next week to discuss whether it can be implemented for the benefit of the Felda community and labourers in Malaysia,” he told reporters, adding that the alliance has 17 associations under its wings.

He said the proposed party would focus on labourers and aim to ensure the welfare of these workers who generally had low and moderate incomes.

“I feel the problems faced by today’s generation of Felda settlers are due to the many programmes which have failed to achieve their objectives, such as the listing of Felda, the introduction of Felda as a food bank, as well as its multimillion-ringgit investments abroad,” he said.

Rozali said the unfair terms and conditions of replanting agreements and unsettled labour issues that have burdened the Felda community would be the starting points for the proposed new party.

“There are 54 parliamentary constituencies where the majority of voters are Felda settlers.

“As the GWGF president, I have been asked to contest, especially in the area that I helped develop, Felda Bukit Cerakah in Kuala Selangor, which is now known as Bandar Baru Puncak Alam,” he added. - FMT
