BN deputy chairperson Mohamad Hasan has described opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as lacking ideas when he pushed for a forensic audit in an effort to save Sapura Energy Berhad.
Mohamad (above, right) cynically advised former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak not to entertain any further debates with Anwar who, he claimed, only knew how to present stale ideas.
"Next time, there is no need to debate with people like this, Najib... it’s a waste of time with stale ideas.
"If we want to take over ABC company, we will do a forensic audit, especially since it is the largest oil and gas company," he said when speaking at the BN Convention in Kuala Lumpur today.
Anwar, during a May 12 debate with Najib, suggested the government conduct a forensic audit on Sapura Energy.
”The question is not about the government helping this company but about intervening, there must be a forensic audit.
"Like I previously did with Perwaja Steel, I was instructed to do it and asked PWC to conduct the forensic audit," Anwar had said.
During the debate, Najib suggested that Petronas take over Sapura Energy to avoid the oil and gas services company going bankrupt.
The proposal was among two recommendations outlined by the former prime minister as a move to save Sapura Energy as Petronas possessed the expertise, with another option involving a government-guaranteed bank loan to the company.
Combat accusations
During the convention, Mohamad asked the BN machinery not to allow the enemy to relentlessly attack the party until it succeeds in influencing the rakyat.
He said the party machinery cannot allow the accusations and perceptions designed by the opposition to easily reach the public.
“The problem now is, when we leave it alone, all the accusations and fabricated perceptions of the opposition reach the public.
"I've noticed in a lot of situations, we fail to provide answers and feedback. Even if there are, it's more political rhetoric and not objective.
"If the attempt to answer and rebuke this is not executed strategically and planned, it will only worsen the situation. We will only make it worse by fixing something we don’t understand (kita ibarat tikus membaiki labu)," he added. - Mkini
