Delay PKR congress until audit on polls is completed, says Farhash

Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak assumes that an audit on the recent PKR elections will be carried out immediately after the election committee chief described his call as ‘fair’.

PETALING JAYA: A former aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has called for the party’s upcoming national convention to be postponed if a forensic audit on the recent party elections is not completed by then.

Former Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said he assumed PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s acknowledgement of his call for a forensic audit as “fair” meant that the audit would be carried out immediately.

“I urge for an investigation and forensic audit on the 2022 party elections to be expedited so that the official results can be confirmed before the national convention.

“Otherwise, I feel that it would be better for the national convention to be postponed until the convention delegates are confirmed to be legitimate members,” he said in a statement today.

Farhash said there should also be room for follow-up action once the audit was completed, adding that the party must act against those responsible if there was any manipulation or cheating involved.

Previously, he had called for a forensic audit on the PKR polls after the “nonsensical” results at the Gombak division. He claimed he had evidence of discrepancies between the number of ballots tallied and that of voters.

The race for the Gombak PKR division head’s post eventually saw Farhash losing out to Selangor PKR chief Amirudin Shari, who is also the menteri besar.

On Tuesday, Zaliha said the party’s election committee would decide within a week if a forensic audit was needed. She said Farhash’s demand was “fair”. - FMT
