Dr M: Bersatu never received RM1.3m 'given' to Muhyiddin

Dr Mahathir Mohamad said his former party Bersatu did not receive RM1.3 million in donations, purportedly gifted to party president Muhyiddin Yassin in 2018.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of an event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Mahathir said he was unaware of the veracity of the allegations against Muhyiddin.

However, Mahathir said that as the chairperson of Bersatu at the material time, the money didn't reach the party treasurer.

"I don't know if (the allegations) are true or not. What I know is the money did not reach our coffers.

"All (donations to the party) are not kept by the recipient but by the treasurer. As far as I know, Muhyiddin did not hand the (purported) RM1.3 million to the treasurer," said Mahathir.

Muhyiddin was alleged to have been paid RM1.3 million by Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) in three tranches in 2018 on June 4, July 4, and Aug 23.

This was revealed by former UKSB administrative manager David Tan during the corruption trial against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on June 17.

Tan testified that the company kept a ledger for its political donations. Apart from Muhyiddin and Zahid, the court heard that Khairy Jamaluddin, Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Hishammuddin Hussein, Shafie Apdal dan Anifah Aman were named in the ledger.

So far, only Muhyiddin and Anifah have denied receiving the money.

Muhyiddin claimed that he was undergoing cancer treatment during the dates alleged by Tan.

Meanwhile, Mahathir said statements regarding secession were not allowed under the law. However, he conceded that some in Malaysia are above the law.

"If I said Kedah should secede, I will be arrested but (others) are not subjected to such laws... A crime is a crime," he said. - Mkini
