Anyone can contest in the Tambun parliamentary constituency in the 15th general election (GE15) including Perak opposition leader Abdul Aziz Bari’s wife, said its incumbent MP Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
The youth and sports minister said this was a given because Malaysia practised democracy.
"Aziz (above, left) does not only want to oppose me, but he also wants to oppose everyone.
"In a democracy like ours, not only Aziz but also his wife can (contest). There is no problem because everyone can contest," the Bersatu deputy president said when met by reporters after officiating the Malaysia Sports League Kinta District 2022 programme at X Park Sunway City, Ipoh today.
Faizal said this when commenting on Aziz’s statement on May 22 that the latter intended to challenge the former Perak menteri besar for the Tambun seat in GE15.
Aziz, from DAP, had also stated that he would be defending his state seat - Tebing Tinggi - in the next general election.
Faizal reminded those interested to contest the Tambun seat not to resort to character assassination of candidates so the unity of the constituents will not be jeopardised.
"There are manners that must be taken care of well. Politics is not for oneself but for the people," added Faizal, who is also the Chenderiang assemblyperson.
