Ex-IGP to give cops list of nightclubs supplying drugs to patrons

KUALA LUMPUR: Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan claims that there are at least 15 nightclubs in the city centre supplying recreational drugs to patrons.

Musa, who is the president of the Malaysian Community Crime Care Association, alleged that the nightclubs had also operated discreetly during the movement control order and seemed untouchable by the authorities.

“This is because middlemen, on behalf of the clubs, bribed the authorities to close their eyes about the operations,” he said in a media conference today.

Musa said he had contacted narcotics criminal investigation department (CID) director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and would set a date to hand over the list of the nightclubs so that further action could be taken.

He also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the immigration department to join forces with police in their operations.

“The nightclubs don’t only supply drugs but also provide guest relation officers and prostitutes from Vietnam, China, Thailand, and Uzbekistan who entered the country using social visit passes.

“When authorities raid the premises, I hope they take a holistic approach. Find out who are the owners, scrutinise their bank accounts and use anti-money laundering laws against them.

“That’s how we cripple their operations,” he said.

He added that to his knowledge, the owners of these nightclubs were linked to a larger drugs syndicate, and the lack of certain laws such as the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 had become a hindrance in attempts to arrest them.

Due to the rampant supply of drugs in nightclubs, Musa said there had been deaths reported near the premises, including those who died in their cars.

“The victims are none other than our youngsters. They were supplied with designer drugs such as ecstasy, ketamine, and a special drink laced with drugs,” he said. - FMT
