KUALA LUMPUR: It was déjà vu all over again for the traders at the Keramat Market in Kampung Datuk Keramat, here as fire struck for the second time since March.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said they received an emergency call on the incident at 1.30am.

"A total of 47 personnel with 14 engines from Keramat Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), BBP Jalan Hang Tuah, BBP Wangsa Maju, BBP Jalan Tun Razak and BBP Setapak were rushed to the scene.

"Upon arrival, we found a shop lot in the market up in flames," he said in a statement today.

He said the damage because of the fire was estimated at 50 per cent.

"The fire also affected some nearby homes with damages estimated to be about 10 per cent.

"The fire was caused due to wooden building materials," he said.

He adds firefighters utilised offensive fire fighting procedures in extinguishing the fire.

"In addition, firefighters also performed defensive firefighting procedures outside the building to prevent greater destruction of properties.

"The fire was brought under control at 2.11am and no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation," he said.
