JOHOR BAHRU: The Shuttle Tebrau service from Johor Bahru Sentral (JB Sentral) station to Woodlands station in Singapore resumed operations today, after being suspended for two years following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Transport minister Wee Ka Siong said the resumption of the service was well-received as over 60,000 tickets had been sold since ticket sales commenced last Monday.

He said the move was expected to reduce congestion on the Johor Causeway after the service was suspended on March 24, 2020, due to the pandemic.

“We are only targeting 240 passengers (per one-way trip) in the first week because we need to coordinate certain things such as MySejahtera and other features.

“We are targeting 7,000 passengers to be able to use this service daily when it is fully operational,” he said at a press conference after flagging off the first Shuttle Tebrau train at JB Sentral this morning.

Also present were Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chairman Musa Sheikh Fadzir and KTMB Group chief executive officer Rani Hisham Samsudin.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz expressed his appreciation to the transport ministry, KTMB and all parties involved in the resumption of the Shuttle Tebrau operation.

“Seeing the resumption of the shuttle service is a historic moment after it was suspended for two years. The people have been waiting for the service to restart,” he said, adding the high demand was proven by the over 60,000 tickets sold for trips over the next one month.

“This will also help the state to reduce traffic congestion.”

A total of 31 trips would be provided daily, comprising 18 trips from JB Sentral to Woodlands and 13 trips from Woodlands to JB Sentral, with a frequency of one train every 30 minutes during peak hours.

Services from JB Sentral start at 5am and end at 10.45pm, while commuters travelling from Woodlands can take the first train at 8.30am and the last train at 11.45pm.

The ticket price for the JB Sentral to Woodlands route is RM5 per person while from Woodlands to JB Sentral it is S$5 (RM15.86) per person.

It was previously reported that passengers can buy tickets using the KITS online system or at KTM ticket counters. They are also required to register and enter their passport number before purchasing a Shuttle Tebrau ticket. - FMT
