PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped last week by 15.5% to 11,052 from the 13,076 recorded the week before, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
This drop follows the trend from recent weeks, with the previous week being down 4.1% compared with the week before that.
In his weekly update ending June 4, Noor Hisham, however, said there was an increase in the number of people admitted to public hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine centres.
The number of hospital admissions increased by 11% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.
Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases fell by 8%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds dropped by 14%.
According to Noor Hisham, there are currently 23,290 active cases.
“Recoveries dropped by 13.4% last week from 15,925 to 13,797. However, the number of deaths rose by 36.8%, that is from 19 cases to 26 cases, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,686,” he said.
He also said that a total of 4,513,631 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. - FMT
