KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a robbery gang that has been active in the Klang Valley since 2009.
The gang has been linked to three murders, 15 robberies and several drug cases, Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim told a press conference.
Seven men and one woman, aged 28 to 67, were arrested this morning. All are Malaysians.
Azmi said police raided a house in Cheras last Saturday following investigations into an armed robbery in November. A shootout occurred during the raid and a 40-year-old man was killed.
Police found a pistol and a hand grenade in the suspect’s bag after the raid.
The suspect had been under investigation for involvement in 26 criminal cases since 2004.
“We have successfully solved several cases that are being investigated, involving murder, robbery and drugs,” he said.
“We will continue our investigations based on any new information we receive. We hope to make more arrests.” - FMT
