BALIK PULAU (Penang): State governments should work with the federal government to improve infrastructure and develop trade zones and industrial parks in their states, international trade and industry minister Azmin Ali said today.
He said new foreign investment should be spread out to the states throughout Malaysia.
“We do not want an economic growth gap that is only concentrated in the Klang Valley and certain states,” he said. “We want other states such as the east coast and Sabah and Sarawak to also enjoy development,” he said after a visit to the craft incubator centre here today.
Azmin said Kedah had recorded an exceptional performance in attracting investment last year, and had helped Kedahans to get good jobs in their home state without having to migrate to other states or districts.
He said an investment from South Korea the previous year in the Kota Kinabalu industrial park had provided employment opportunities for Sabahans to get quality jobs. - FMT
