Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, who was recently selected by Putrajaya to become Malaysia's ambassador to Indonesia, is expected to receive his appointment letter from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.
According to government sources, the Umno leader and four other new ambassadors are going to have an audience with Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in an afternoon session on Monday (June 20).
"Tajuddin will be receiving his watikah (appointment letter) from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this coming Monday," said a source familiar with the matter.
"For this batch, there are a total of five new ambassadors who were recently selected by the government," the source added.
The other four will purportedly be Malaysia's ambassadors to Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and South Korea.
Aside from Tajuddin (above), all the others are said to be from the civil service instead of a political party.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Tajuddin for his comments. However, he indicated that he is not ready to comment at this juncture.
Another Umno ambassador?
Meanwhile, Malaysiakini learned that another Umno leader, Nazri Aziz, is also slated to be an ambassador.
Sources in the know said Nazri, who is the Padang Rengas MP, is being considered to be Malaysia's ambassador to the United States.
"Nazri is going to be made ambassador to the US. But this is pending approval," said a government insider, who said Nazri's name has been submitted to the host country.
When contacted, Nazri claimed he is in the dark over the matter.
"Actually, I know nothing at all."
Nazri was previously offered to be Malaysia's ambassador to Switzerland but reportedly rejected the offer in 2019 as he did not want to lose his MP seat, according to Free Malaysia Today.
