Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin claimed that the prosecution was unable to furnish complete documents on the charges against Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday.
This, he said, proved that the charges were a political act aimed at damaging Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional's reputation.
"When our lawyers asked for the complete documents, their side (prosecution) did not have it.
"What does this mean, it clearly means they just want to make political charges to ruin the image of Bersatu and PN," he said at the Bersatu AGM today.
Malaysiakini has contacted the prosecution team, Muhyiddin's defence team, and the MACC for a response to Hamzah's allegations.
A senior MACC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told this news portal that under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code, complete documents are only provided after an official request during case management.
The source stressed that the investigation papers are complete, and had been thoroughly reviewed by Attorney-General Idrus Harun.
On Friday, Muhyiddin was charged with abuse of power and money laundering involving RM232.5 million - allegedly obtained from three companies and an individual during his time as prime minister.
He is slated to be slapped with more charges on Monday.
Bersatu and PN have decried the charge as being politically motivated.
Prepare for battle in state polls
Meanwhile, Hamzah in his speech today called on PN's machinery to gear up for battle in the upcoming elections in six states.
He said the polls would determine the survival of both PN and the current coalition government.
State polls are due in Pakatan Harapan-controlled Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang, as well as in PN-controlled Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan.
Harapan and BN are expected to work together in the polls. - Mkini
