Anwar was seen singing the classic Hindi song at a hotel in New Delhi, accompanied by a pianist and with both hands raised in the air.
The song was written by legendary lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Kishore Kumar for the 1965 Bollywood film Teen Deviyan. It was composed by S.D. Burman.
The song explores the wonder and uncertainty of falling in love and is regarded as a classic of Hindi cinema's golden era.
The performance reflected Anwar's long-standing appreciation of Hindi cinema and music, including during his engagements with India, an important economic partner.
The performance was posted on his official X account, formerly Twitter, with the lighthearted caption: "Guru minta izin nyanyi kejap ok!" (Teacher, requesting permission to sing for a bit!).
India Today described the performance as a glimpse into Anwar's long-standing admiration for Hindi cinema and its music, an interest that has also featured in his diplomatic engagements with India.
Anwar is known to be a fan of the late Indian playback legend Lata Mangeshkar, whose distinctive voice made her songs popular across generations.
Her voice became closely associated with Hindi cinema's romantic songs and generations of film music.
It was not his first performance of the song in India. Anwar sang the same number during his 2024 visit to the country.
