PAS, PN election machinery focussing on 126 potential parliamentary seats

PAS and Perikatan Nasional’s election machinery is focussing its preparations on 126 parliamentary seats identified as having strong potential ahead of the next general election (GE16).

In a Facebook post, PN information chief Annuar Musa said the 126 seats did not include constituencies in Sarawak.

“Although PAS may not necessarily contest all 126, it is the principle and practice of PAS to help like-minded allies who contest them later,” he said.

Annuar said the decision on which seats PAS would contest would be left to the party’s top leadership.

PN won 74 parliamentary seats in GE15, with PAS securing 43 of those seats.

In September last year, PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah was reported to have said that the party was aiming to win 80 parliamentary seats in GE16 as part of its push to return to Putrajaya.

He said PAS had set a goal of winning at least 40 seats before GE15, and eventually won 43 out of the 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

The current term for the federal government ends in December 2027, after which a general election must be called within 60 days. - FMT
