Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the incident occurred about 2.30pm on Saturday when personnel from the district police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division were escorting the official convoy of Datuk Undang Luak Johol.
He said the convoy was travelling from the Serenia Toll Plaza towards Tamarind Square when the automatic barrier leading to the upper-level access road failed to open.
"The traffic policeman then contacted the Tamarind management through the communication device provided at the barrier and was informed to push the barrier manually to allow the convoy to enter the area.
"He was also instructed to return the barrier to its original position after the entire convoy had passed through, as there were no personnel at the barrier when the official convoy wanted to enter the premises," he said in a statement last night.
Norhizam said the barrier was placed back in its original position after the convoy had passed through.
He added that the traffic policeman's action, as captured in the viral video, was carried out based on instructions from the management to ensure the official convoy could proceed.
"There were no objections or complaints from either the escorted party or the Tamarind Square management. The convoy escort operation to and from the location was also carried out smoothly," he said.
Earlier, a 39-second clip showing the traffic policeman pushing open the automatic barrier at the premises went viral on social media.
The clip, believed to have been taken from a vehicle's dashcam, elicited mixed reactions from social media users, with some accusing the traffic police of overstepping their authority. - NST
