Ex-GE15 candidate nabbed for allegedly pushing senior citizen into drain

A woman who stood as an independent candidate in the last general election (GE15) was arrested last Friday for allegedly pushing a senior citizen into a drain.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the suspect tailed the 79-year-old victim, a former Selangor hockey player, after the latter exited a shop in Taman OUG around 10.30am.

The suspect then suddenly shoved the victim, who fell into a drain. The victim sustained injuries to her back, her left arm and the back of her head.

“The incident was captured on closed-circuit television.

“The victim’s friend lodged a police report and the suspect was arrested on the same day,” Hoo was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.

Hoo said the suspect, however, did not admit to pushing the woman into the drain and failed to provide a reasonable excuse for her actions.

The suspect also did not know the victim, Hoo said.

“To facilitate the investigation, the suspect has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment and treatment.”

Hoo said police were investigating the case for voluntarily causing hurt. - FMT
