We’re keeping the peace, not taking sides, say Negeri Sembilan cops

Negeri Sembilan police have defended their decision to restrict access to certain locations in the state, including the state government office, Wisma Negeri, saying their purpose is to keep the peace.

State police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the force was not taking sides in the ongoing royal crisis and respects the constitutional, legal and institutional processes taking place.

“Concerning the deployment of personnel in several locations, including the Tuanku Ja’afar Royal Gallery, Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong and Wisma Negeri, the security measures were implemented to preserve public peace.

“However, police are managing access to Wisma Negeri following the Negeri Sembilan palace’s announcement that the appointments of the state executive council members have been annulled.

“This is simply to ensure security, public peace and that matters conducted at the premises may proceed smoothly,” he said in a statement.

Alzafny added that restrictions are being carried out in an orderly manner according to security evaluations, the need to manage the relevant premises, and to avoid public unrest.

“These actions should not be interpreted as the police taking sides or recognising any particular party in the matters going through the constitutional and legal processes.”

The Negeri Sembilan police chief urged the public to remain calm, respect the ongoing legal processes and not spread unverified information that could cause confusion or unease. - FMT
