‘Very unhealthy’ air quality returns to Serian as Sarawak battles haze

The whole of Sarawak is battling haze again while West Malaysia enjoys clearer skies.

The whole of Sarawak is battling the haze caused by land and forest fires in Indonesia, with the air quality in Serian back to very unhealthy levels.

According to the environment department’s air pollutant index (API) portal, the API in Serian stood at 201 as of 6pm.

The rest of Sarawak recorded unhealthy API readings, with the highest reported in Kuching at 185, followed by Samarahan (182), Sri Aman (176), Bintulu (174), Sibu (166), Samalaju (164), Sarikei (164), Miri (161), Mukah (160), the Miri Industrial Training Institute (154), Limbang (153) and Kapit (121).

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 moderate; 101 to 200 unhealthy; 201 to 300 very unhealthy; and above 300 hazardous.

The air quality in the rest of the country remained largely moderate, while nine areas in the peninsula recorded good API readings. - FMT
