Semenyih supermarket raided over conditions to buy cooking oil packets

PETALING JAYA:

A Semenyih supermarket was raided following complaints regarding the imposition of conditions for the purchase of 1kg packets of subsidised cooking oil.

A complainant had alleged that consumers who wished to purchase a box of 1kg packets of cooking oil, totalling 17kg, were required to make other purchases at the supermarket with a minimum value of RM300.

Enforcement officers from the domestic trade and cost of living ministry (KPDN) then went undercover and made a test purchase, Bernama reported.

KPDN director-general (enforcement) Azman Adam said his officers found the complaint was genuine.

“During the test purchase, other items totalling RM303.65 were purchased before our officer was permitted to buy 17 packets of 1kg cooking oil for a total of RM42.50. The transaction and incident were recorded to assist in the investigation,” he said.

KPDN is investigating the case under Section 19 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122) for allegedly imposing conditions on the sale of scheduled controlled goods.

KPDN warned all traders not to impose any unauthorised purchase conditions on consumers in the sale of controlled goods. - FMT
