Ipoh police chief Najib Hamzah says the 29-year-old motorist, who was arrested soon after, tested positive for methamphetamine and did not possess a driving licence.
Ipoh police chief Najib Hamzah said in the 9.45am incident, a policeman ordered the driver to stop at the roadblock, but the driver refused and sped through.
“The policeman on duty managed to avoid being hit. Three other traffic policemen then gave chase.
“Upon reaching the traffic light near the Perak state secretariat building, the suspect entered the left lane, then made a sudden U-turn and rammed into a traffic policeman,” he was quoted as saying by Kosmo today.
Najib said the suspect later drove against oncoming traffic, eventually losing control of his car and crashing it near the Taman Wing Onn traffic lights.
He said the 29-year-old driver was arrested soon after. Checks found that he had no driving licence, while the vehicle’s road tax had expired. A urine test also came back positive for methamphetamine.
Najib said the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence. - FMT
