Woman dies after being stabbed through gap in wooden floor

KUALA KANGSAR: A 49-year-old woman was found dead with a puncture wound to her calf at her home in Kampung Cheh Hilir, Kati, here today.

Nor Ainon Omar, who was a person with a learning disability, was found lying in the wooden village house she shared with her husband and three children, with severe bleeding from her leg.

A check at the scene found blood dripping through gaps in the wooden floor onto the ground beneath the house.

Kampung Cheh Hilir Village Management and Safety Committee (JPKK) chairman Nur Halim Abdul Hamid said he was among the first to arrive at the scene after being alerted by residents.

He said when he arrived around 2pm, the victim was unconscious and had what appeared to be a puncture wound to her calf, with heavy bleeding.

"After being informed about the incident, I immediately went to the house and found the victim unconscious, with a lot of blood coming from her calf.

"Her 43-year-old husband was also at home at the time. I was told that he had sought help from residents, who then came to me for assistance.

"I then contacted the police," he told reporters at the scene.

Nur Halim said, based on the husband's account, the victim had managed to tell him that her leg had been stabbed from underneath through a gap in the wooden floor.

"When I asked the victim's husband how it happened, he said he did not know, but his wife told him that her leg had been stabbed with a sharp object through a gap in the wooden floor from underneath the house," he said.

Nur Halim said villagers then launched a search for one of the victim's three children who was not at home.

"Her 15-year-old son was eventually located and persuaded to return home, after which he was detained by police," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim's sister-in-law, Suliana Jalaluddin, 37, said she was informed about the incident at 2.16pm after her brother, the victim's husband, sent a photograph of his wife's condition to a WhatsApp group.

She said her brother's family was well known among local residents and often received attention from the village committee as the victim and all three of her children were persons with disabilities.

"As far as we know, the relationship between the deceased, her husband and their three children was close. My sister-in-law was a person with a disability, as were all three of their children.

"The eldest, aged 17, has a physical disability resulting from burn injuries sustained some time ago, while the other two children, including the one linked to this incident, have learning disabilities," she said.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar police chief Assistant Commissioner Heisham Harun, when contacted, said police would provide an update on the investigation soon. - NST
