Wife questions husband's late-night outings, gets slapped, headbutted and choked

KANGAR: A housewife who confronted her husband over his frequent late-night outings was slapped, headbutted and choked, at a house in Kampung Permatang Pauh, Simpang Empat, here.

Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the incident, which occurred around 9.30pm was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the 49-year-old victim and her 56-year-old husband, who works as a lorry driver.

He said the woman had earlier confronted her husband and asked him not to leave the house at night as she suspected he wanted to meet another woman.

"The suspect became angry after his wife accused him of having another woman and slapped the left side of her face before headbutting her on the forehead.

"The victim, who tried to defend herself, scratched the suspect's shoulder. However, the suspect pushed her, causing her to fall onto a sofa in the living room, before attempting to choke her," he said in a statement today.

Yusharifuddin said the altercation was brought under control by the victim's daughter, who was in the kitchen and heard the commotion in the living room, before the victim fled into the bedroom.

"Further investigations found that the woman had been abused by her husband for almost two years and claimed that she had previously been beaten unconscious.

"Following the latest incident, the victim suffered bruising to her abdomen and was advised to seek treatment and further examination at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF), Kangar.

"Police arrested the suspect to assist investigations and he has been remanded for four days until Sept 26.

"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act," he said. - NST
