Anwar: Loke, DAP shouldn't bow to pressure; Malaysia bags third gold in Asian Games

• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he will meet Transport Minister Anthony Loke to hear his explanation for the DAP secretary-general's planned resignation from the cabinet, and would ask him to rescind the decision.
  
  According to New Straits Times, Anwar acknowledged that DAP’s longstanding stance against corruption has made it difficult to deal with the Pardons Board’s decision to conditionally allow former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to be held under house arrest.
  
  However, he said Loke and DAP had done nothing wrong, and should not bow to pressure from those who merely want to see the unity government become unstable.
  
  “Some people ask, why Loke? Why doesn't the whole of DAP leave? Whose suggestion is that? Why should he leave? He did nothing wrong. He did not propose the pardon decision; in fact, he tried his best to oppose it”, Anwar was quoted as saying.

Court

• Environmental group RimbaWatch will appeal a High Court ruling today that refused it leave to pursue a judicial review against two ministries over a “greenwashing” complaint.
  
  In a statement, RimbaWatch said the court’s brief oral reasons included that the application was premature, lacked a public law element, and that the group had no standing. The court’s written grounds are pending.
  

  

  The group said the ruling prevents what it described as Malaysia’s first climate lawsuit from proceeding to a full hearing. 
  
  However, they argued that the case has nevertheless prompted the courts to consider climate claims and how international climate law, including a recent International Court of Justice advisory opinion, might apply in Malaysia. 

• A 27-year-old Malaysian accused of coordinating scam and money laundering activities in Singapore was charged in court there today.
  
  Singapore police said Chin Hock Khan allegedly recruited Malaysians to collect valuables from victims of a scam involving people impersonating government officials. He then instructed the runners to bring gold items to Johor Bahru and hand them over to him.
  
  Chin is suspected of laundering at least S$500,000 (RM1.6 million) in scam and other illicit proceeds, Bernama reported, citing the Singapore police force.
  
  He faces a punishment of 10 years’ jail, a fine of up to S$500,000, or both

Asian Games 

• National karate athlete C Shahmalarani has won Malaysia’s third gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, taking the women’s under-50kg kumite title today, Bernama reported. 
  
  Shahmalarani beat Hong Kong’s Tsang Yee Ting on a judges’ decision after their final ended 0-0 at the Toyohashi Gymnasium.
  
  “It’s been like a roller coaster, but I’m very happy now. I just want to enjoy this moment because the journey has been very, very difficult,” she said, reflecting on injuries and disappointing results before the Games.
  
  Adeola Fay Robert secured Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Asian Games after winning the women’s under-55kg kumite competition yesterday, while Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira won the country’s second gold medal after topping the Gran Turismo 7 in the e-sports competition. - Mkini
