2 Sabah students charged with bullying juniors

PETALING JAYA:

Two students have been charged in the children’s court in Papar, Sabah, in connection with a bullying case that occurred at a secondary school there in September last year.

One of them, aged 17, claimed trial to assaulting two juniors, while the other, 16, pleaded not guilty to bullying one of the juniors, Berita Harian reported.

The 17-year-old was charged with voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.

The other student was charged under Section 507B of the Penal Code with causing harassment, distress, fear or alarm to the victim, punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, if convicted.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa fixed Oct 29 for mention and submission of a behaviour report on the two minors, who were both granted bail of RM3,000 each.

Deputy public prosecutor Kareena Kaur Gill Karamjit Singh prosecuted while the students were unrepresented. - FMT
