Ex-Umno leader Puad Zarkashi says his former party was nearly killed off in the past, especially after losing power in 2018, but never held a grudge against its rivals.
Puad said a senior PAS leader’s warning that government parties would one day “be at the bottom” suggested that the Islamic party would seek revenge once it gains federal power.
“Everyone can see how PAS acts like the big brother in PN. PAS is already mistreating (PN ally) Bersatu although the former has yet to attain power. So it would not be surprising if PAS acts more aggressively once it’s in power.
“PAS should act professionally after Bersatu lodged a complaint with the RoS. After all, PN has yet to be deregistered. It’s only (suspended and) given 30 days to explain itself,” he said in a Facebook post.
The former Rengit assemblyman added that Umno was nearly killed off in the past, especially after losing power in 2018, but never held a grudge against its rivals.
Puad cited the successful registrations of Wawasan, which is led by former Umno leader Hamzah Zainudin, and Rafizi Ramli’s Bersama.
The RoS suspended PN yesterday, a day after giving the coalition 30 days to explain a complaint lodged by Bersatu.
This came amid worsening ties between Bersatu and PAS after the latter took over the PN chairmanship in February. In June, PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu.
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan suggested that political pressure might be behind the suspension, while coalition partner Wawasan questioned the timing, citing the upcoming Melaka state election.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also claimed the suspension was merely a politically-motivated move aimed at hampering PN.
“But remember there will come a time when you will be at the bottom,” he had said in a Facebook post. - FMT
