PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has denied a viral statement claiming that it had proposed allowing Rohingya to obtain driving licences in Malaysia.

The department said it has lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate an investigation and appropriate action over the dissemination of the content.

"The statement, titled 'JPJ Proposes Allowing Rohingya to Obtain Driving Licences', was posted on a Facebook account and appeared to resemble an official news report.

"The department seriously views any attempt to produce, modify or disseminate content using its name, identity or images in a manner that could mislead the public and undermine its credibility," it said in a statement today.

The RTD also advised the public against sharing information whose authenticity could not be verified and urged them to refer to its official channels for accurate and verified information. - NST
