MOVES TO OUST MUHYIDDIN BEGIN IN JOHOR & PERAK – WITH ‘LOVE’ FROM UMNO!

THIEVES’ FIGHT OVER BACKDOOR SPOILS INTENSIFY IN JOHOR – WHILE PAKATAN TELLS MUHYIDDIN ‘SERVES YOU RIGHT, WE TOLD YOU SO!’: JOHOR BERSATU SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED MUKHRIZ’S LEAD IN KEDAH & KEPT JOHOR A PAKATAN STATE – REPS AMID RISING GROUSES UMNO BECOMING TOO AGGRESSIVE

Johor Bersatu being reportedly sidelined by Umno shows why the state chapter should have followed the lead of Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, said two Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons.
Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali (Paloh) and Taqiuddin Cheman (Pulai Sebatang) said if Johor Bersatu had remained neutral on the formation of Perikatan Nasional, they would have a stronger bargaining chip.
“If they followed Mukhriz’s (above) example in Kedah, this would have given Bersatu power of demand in PN, which is just a political cooperation described as ‘fragile’ and does not have a clear path forward,” they said in a joint statement today.
PN took over the Johor state government in late February after Bersatu and one PKR representative defected to join forces with BN and PAS.
Johor Bersatu has recently been complaining that the state government – now headed by Umno again – had not been making equitable political appointments such as in GLCs.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan had said that his party’s role in PN was only to overcome a political crisis, and that Umno’s alliance is with BN and PAS.
Sheikh Umar and Taqiuddin said it was clear that Johor Bersatu had become a victim of circumstances, and that there was no need for them to fight so hard to uphold PN.
“What is the need to go all out in Johor regarding PN? PN may not even be around for the 15th general election,” they said.

Bersatu rep questions Khaled’s appointment as YPG chair

Bersatu’s Permas assemblyperson Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh has questioned why former Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin has reportedly been appointed as the Yayasan Pasir Gudang (YPG) chairperson.
He said this and other issues were hindering aid from being distributed to the people.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Che Zakaria – who defeated Khaled for the state seat in the last general election – questioned the latter’s locus standi to head YPG.
“I am still there for Perikatan Nasional, why did they not turn to me? That is why Bersatu is upset,” he added.
The Umno vice-president’s appointment as the foundation’s chair was brought up by former Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian yesterday, as an example of unequal distribution of positions between Bersatu and Umno.
Che Zakaria claimed Khaled’s appointment was purportedly on the basis that he was also YPG’s founder.
The assemblyperson said when he contacted Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad regarding this, the latter’s office said an appointment had yet to be made.
“So we can see that things like this are in limbo. Even small matters like this are stuck, that is why we (Johor Bersatu) are mad.
“We can’t help the people even though they are going hungry. They can’t work, they’re not earning their salaries, so if we can’t help them, how are they going to eat?
“YPG has allocations, it should be helping the people of Pasir Gudang. What are they keeping the money for?” he asked.
Malaysiakini has contacted Hasni and Khaled for comment.
Another matter ruffling Johor Bersatu’s feathers, Che Zakaria said, was the distribution of Ramadan aid from the state government.
He said previously during the Pakatan Harapan administration, poor households would get RM100 each in addition to a food basket worth RM100 to help them during the fasting month.
“But now, I have made the request (for aid allocation) a week ago, and there is still no answer. This is why we are furious,” he added.
He revealed that Bersatu was also upset with the state government over the lack of transparency in the appointment of politicians to GLCs, which the party believes is not equitable.
Che Zakaria, himself, had been removed from the board of the South East Johor Development Authority (Kejora).
However, he said this was not an issue as political appointees nationwide were being sacked.
Previously on April 27, Johor Bersatu leader Mohd Solihan Badri penned a public essay, urging Umno not to neglect Bersatu because they needed each other to rule the state.
Solihan, who is both the state cabinet member and Tenang lawmaker, also said that Bersatu’s inclusion in political appointments, such as GLCs, must be part of the “rules” for PN’s collaboration.

PETALING JAYA: Exports of palm oil-based products saw a significant drop of 34.8%, or 793,257 tonnes, to 1,486,521 tonnes compared to 2,279,778 tonnes during the same period in 2019, says Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.

Stranded in Cairo despite renewing long-term social visit pass

I would like to draw attention to my plight of being stranded in Cairo.
I am a Canadian, married to a Malaysian and have a daughter together who is also Malaysian. I have been living in Malaysia for the last three years under a long-term social visit pass (LTSVP) which I renew annually.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, I was planning a brief trip to Cairo and thus decided that I should renew my LTSVP. That was at the end of January. My LTSVP was going to expire in April. Nevertheless, I renewed it at a new immigration office, different from my previous location. We had moved last year to Perak and therefore thought it would be more convenient if we had transferred my file to an office within the state.
When I went to renew my LTSVP, there was no problem except that the officer did not give me a receipt as proof of renewal. I sensed that this was not normal and requested him for one, to which he replied “no receipt”. I thought maybe it was because this office was a small outfit compared to others and hence they did not provide one. Not thinking much about it at that time, I left and went home.
I did mention to the officer that I was going overseas and he said there was no problem with me returning to Malaysia and I could collect my new visa then.
That was in the beginning of February. Fast forward to April and the world events drastically changed within a short period of time. As I watched many countries beginning to close their borders, there was a sense of urgency for me to return to Malaysia.
I did not think there would be an issue since the government had said spouses with valid LTSVP could return. However, after contacting the embassy in Cairo, I was told that my LTSVP was about to expire. If I could not leave Egypt before it expired, I would have to wait until the MCO in Malaysia ended before I could return. I explained to the embassy staff that my visa was already renewed in Malaysia. However, the staff wanted a receipt as proof of the renewal. At that point, my heart sank because the immigration officer did not give me one.
My wife and I have been trying to get at least some written confirmation of my renewal but all immigration offices are closed at the moment. The main immigration office in Ipoh is on limited staffing but it is difficult to get anyone to listen to our plight. We have contacted Wisma Putra and the home affairs ministry but were unsuccessful. My wife had spoken to an immigration officer at KLIA and was told that my new LTSVP is in the centralised system and there is no issue for me to return. But alas, I am stranded here in Cairo. I came here in mid-February and was hoping to be back long ago.
At this point, I am not sure what else to do. Many who have listened to my case sympathise with my situation but are unable to help. They mentioned that the receipt should have been issued. So now because of no fault of mine, I am stranded in Cairo. Thankfully, I found a place to stay with a Malaysian student. He has since returned to Malaysia and now I will spend my Ramadan alone.

Agong sends special envelope for Suhaily’s family

Muzli Mohd Zin, representing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, hands over a personal donation from the king to Suhaily’s husband, Samsudin, at their flat in Kota Damansara. (Instagram pic)
PETALING JAYA: Suhaily Ramly, who related her struggle to make ends meet for her nine children including four who are handicapped, today received a special package from none other than the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultah Ahmad Shah.
Her story which was highlighted by FMT last week caught the attention of the monarch, who made a personal contribution to her and her husband, Samsudin Ramli.
They were met by the Agong’s representative, Muzli Mohd Zin, who visited them at their public flat in Kota Damansara.
“Hopefully, the donation will help to ease the family’s burden,” the palace said today, posting a picture of the visit on its official Instagram page.
When contacted, Suhaily was lost for words.
“I’m just overjoyed. I don’t know what to say anymore,” she told FMT.
She has been receiving a stream of visitors bringing items such as rice, eggs and other essentials since FMT highlighted her family’s plight on Sunday.
The 44-year-old gave up her job as a nursing assistant to care for her family in their small PPR flat in Kota Damansara. Her husband, 48, lost his income due to the movement control order.
Their children are aged one to 22 years.
Their eldest son suffered a motorcycle accident four years ago. Her two daughters, aged 21 and 18, have learning disorders, while her three-year-old girl was born with Down Syndrome.
Suhaily said she would spend wisely the donations she received.
“Our fridge has long been broken. Now we can buy a new one,” she said, adding that they also plan to buy basic furniture including beds for their children. - FMT

Court to fix trial dates for Shafee’s money laundering, tax cases in June

Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah faces two counts of money laundering involving RM9.5 million and two charges of making false statements to the Inland Revenue Board.
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will fix in June the trial dates for lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who faces two counts of money laundering involving RM9.5 million allegedly received from Najib Razak and two charges of making false statements to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
Deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz said High Court senior assistant registrar Norazihah Asmuni informed the parties of the June 5 case management date through email this afternoon.
“We will meet the judge to fix the trial dates,” Afzainizam told FMT.
Case management had been scheduled before trial judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin today but was postponed as the management control order (MCO), which began on March 18, is still in force.
Ad hoc prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram will lead the prosecution team but it is unclear who will appear for Shafee.
Shafee, 67, was charged in September 2018 and the trial was scheduled to begin from March 19.
He claimed trial to receiving proceeds from unlawful activities through cheques issued by Najib, which were remitted into his CIMB Bank Bhd account.
He allegedly received a cheque for RM4.3 million on Sept 13, 2013 and another for RM5.2 million on Feb 17, 2014.
Shafee also faces two charges of involvement in transactions of proceeds from unlawful activities by making inaccurate statements in contravention of Paragraph 113 (1)(a) of the Income Tax Act 1967 for the financial years ending Dec 31, 2013 and Dec 31, 2014. - FMT
