The Attorney-General's Chambers today confirmed that it has received investigation papers (IPs) on several opposition leaders and Bersih 2.0 leaders from the police over their involvement in the July 9 rally calling for electoral reform.
Kuala Lumpur prosecution head Raja Rozela Raja Toran, when contacted, confirmed the list include opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, Batu MP Tian Chua (centre in photo) and also Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.
"Yes, they are some of the principal players (about which we have received IPs," she told Malaysiakini.
Raja Rozela however refused to reveal the number of IPs it had received from the police.
"There are quite a number. Yes, we have received quite a bit of investigation papers (on the rally) as it has to make its way here," she said.
Deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar was quoted as saying today that the police have completed investigations on the July 9 rally and had sent the IPs to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
Earlier this week, inspector-general of police Ismail Omar said the papers are expected to be completed by the end of this week and would be submitted to the AG's Chambers.
Normally the chambers would take some time to review the papers and in some instances they would return it to the police to further complete their investigations.
The July 9 rally organised by Bersih 2.0 was to seek clean and fair elections.
