'How to trust when you forget us after polls?'

vox populi small thumbnailTrust me, Najib tells Indian M'sians

R Venugopal:
Indians trust the prime minister, but he forgets the Indians when it comes to important issues. Stateless Indians, unemployed Indians, Indian school dropouts, landless people, Indian contractors unable to secure jobs, etc, these are very common, and action from the government to face the challenges are little.

Treat Indian Malaysians as citizens of this country, not as a minority race. Only when elections are nearby, everyone voices concern about the Indians, not to help but looking for or finding ways to buy their votes as cheap as possible.

Show your proactive plans for the Indians to see before you expect them to trust you any further.

People Power: I don't know about our Indian friends, but as a Malay, I can't trust Najib myself.

Look at what is happening around: non-Umno NGOs protest, they get arrested. Umno NGOs protest, no arrest. Yellow shirts get arrested, red shirts don't. NGOs against the government's misdoings are declared illegal. Umno NGOs like Perkasa can spew hate and racism. One moment, PM Najib Razak cries 1Malaysia, but his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin says Malay first, Malaysian second. Still want to trust him?

Lt-Cdr B RMK: The PM can't even solve the Interlok issue, which degrades and disgraces Indians at large, let alone other concerns. How long is he going to take the Indians for a good ride?

Rubystar_4037: Trust me, read my lips: I don't know any Mongolian woman; Mohd Saiful Bukhari only came to ask me for a scholarship; I didn't ask Hee Yit Foong to jump ship; all my wife's bags and clothes are bought with her own money; I was misquoted when I said 'You help me, I help you'; I told the Royal Commission of Inquiry to come up with unbiased report on Teoh Beng Hock...

July 9: Perkasa will soldier on... if Bersih does

Bender: When the Yang di-Pertuan Agong advised against the demonstration, Bersih took it with utmost respect. It dares not defy His Majesty's request outright.

But it's a different story with this amphibian species called Perkasa. With utmost defiance against His Majesty's decree, they insist in marching on just because Bersih is going to do it. What happened to the respect that all Malays should have towards the King?

Ibrahim Ali is showing that he and the rest of Perkasa do not have any respect for the King. They are all 'penderhaka kepada raja'. It makes it much worse that Perkasa is supposedly a Malay organisation.

PM: Rally mere ruse to gain power

Kgen: Don't insult our intelligence, PM Najib Razak. How can a rally for free and fair elections be a means to overthrow the government? Not that this corrupt government does not deserve to be overthrown, but don't twist the purpose of this rally to suit your perverted ends.

Gerard Samuel Vijayan
: If certain groups wanted to gain power through undemocratic means, as alleged by the PM Najib, they would have done it in 1999 when Umno was most unpopular with the Malay voters over the sacking of Anwar Ibrahim.

But it did not happen. Neither did it happen in 1990 despite Umno being split, or in 2007 when Bersih first appeared.

So why the irrational fear now? Malaysians by nature are not "revolutionary". They still prefer peaceful change through the ballot box. In fact, even the fight for independence was through peaceful means, with the Malay rulers, and Umno itself, being very cooperative with the British.

The Bersih rally only envisages electoral reform that will benefit BN as well. But the BN is opposed to this for reasons best known to it. It does not involve race or religion or political affiliation.

Pakatan Rakyat has endorsed it, even if for self-serving reasons, but BN can do the same if it wishes. A public rally or protest can be easily controlled and policed. No need to ban or go overboard.

Anonymous_4089: Maybe an uneducated or an interested BN supporter will totally agree with what Najib says. But to the majority of ordinary Malaysians like me, we are not that stupid not to see that there is a great flaw in our democratic system.

First, and the most obvious reason as to why we are unhappy, is why the police are biased when handling this public issue? Why are the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Election Commission, judiciary, police force, states and federal system not practising the separation of powers? Najib, if you can convince us that there is nothing wrong in our country, I think many of us will continue voting for BN.

NX: PM Najib, we support a government that is elected in a free and fair election. Gerrymandering needs to be addressed and resolved. EC needs to be independent. The current bunch has proven to be stooges. The question is, Najib, are you brave enough with your one million supporters to reform the election rules so that a popular government is elected? If not, it's best that you remain silent. - Malaysiakini
