“It is on a government level, it will not be brought to Parliament; it will be passed and carried out by the Cabinet,” he told reporters here.
The deputy prime minister said the blueprint for the government’s education reforms is expected to be completed by August, and will be announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“After that we will carry on work before the end of the year when we present the complete report to Cabinet.
“There is a roadmap, the current system works, but we are open towards improvement,” he said.
When asked whether the shortage of teachers in Chinese vernacular schools would be part of the education review, Muhyiddin replied “that is an administrative matter.”
“That is not a policy matter, the question of lack of teachers need not be discussed, if teachers are needed we will find teachers,” he said.
Muhyiddin said his Education Ministry is now implementing the “first phase” of the education review via engagement with stakeholders such as teachers and school principals.
“This is so they understand the need for the study, the review is to engage them. We are open to ideas and suggestions,” he added.
He announced today the new members for the education review panel. They are Tan Sri Kamal Hassan, Datuk Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah, Datuk Chuah Hean Teik, and Dr N. Rajendran.
