CPO denies snubbing Selangor Merdeka Day parade


The absence of the police at the Selangor Merdeka celebration was due to traffic duties, says Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah.

Selangor police chief DCP Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah 2According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, Tun Hisan (left) said the police had not even participated in the parade's rehearsal.

"So we only helped in keeping the peace and regulate traffic," he was quoted as saying.

Both the police and the Malaysian armed forces had pulled out of the parade which took place on the night of of Aug 31 at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.

Selangor exco Teresa Kok had said that the reason given was because there would be a political speech.

The parade had already courted controversy as the Selangor sultan was not invited to the event.

In contrast, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who was merely the state's economic advisor, was present alongside Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during the parade.
