Pengerang rally organising member gets ominous gift

Less than a day before the rally against the Pengerang petrochemical plant in Johor, an organising member has found a bag containing a dead snake deposited in front of her home.

The python's head was almost severed save for a stretch of skin, and along it were flyers promoting tomorrow's rally.

pengerang himpunan hijau logoAccording to the treasurer of the Pengerang NGOs coalition Chua Peng Sia, the group’s deputy secretary Goh Wan Ting first spotted the bag outside her house but did not dare to open it.

Goh contacted former committee member Hong Thian Hwa for help at 4.26pm, who arrived to inspect the bag.

"Goh only told me that the bag felt soft and moist to touch.

"When I opened the bag, it was a dead phyton and several of the rally's flyers," he said.

The coalition will lodge a police report this evening.

Attempts to contact Goh for comment has been unsuccessful.
Second attack on Goh's house
This is the second attack on Goh's residence - previously, unknown parties splashed her house and car with red paint.
Meanwhile, coalition chaiperson Anis Afida Mohd Azli said there are no suspects at the moment.

NONE"I would just like to ask for the police's cooperation to monitor the area, especially Goh's home since it has been targeted twice.

"I also urge the police to ensure that the rally goes smoothly," she toldMalaysiakini when met at the venue of tomorrow's protest.
Tomorrow an ad-hoc coalition of NGOs are holding their Himpunan Hijau Lestari Pengerang to protest the RM60 billion Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project located in the southeastern tip of Johor.
The protest is scheduled to start at 10am at Dataran Sungai Rengit, just two minutes’ drive from Goh's residence.
