Hisham wants cops to probe 'mooning' incident
The action of certain quarters in stepping on the pictures of Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor has been described as an extreme act to sow hatred against the national leader, said Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said police would investigate the matter and refer it to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action.
"Political hatred is a dangerous matter in a multi-racial and multi-religious society," said Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice-president, to reporters after opening the Pengkalan Chepa Umno division delegates meeting in Kota Baru today.
Hishammuddin said such matters should be handled carefully and speedily so that it would not exploited by certain parties.
‘New flags' disrespectful
Apart from stepping on the pictures at the 'Himpunan Janji Bersih' at Dataran Merdeka on the eve of the 55th National Day on Aug 30, there were also participants who carried 'new flags' described by some as not respecting the sovereignty of the country.
Hishammuddin said what was carried out by the groups was worrying as it could lead to riots and as such, the government would not compromise on the question of the nation's security.
Also present at the meeting were Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairperson Mustapa Mohamed and Pengkalan Chepa Umno division chief Dali Hussin.
The Umno division also held an Aidilfitri open house which was attended by thousands of guests.
