PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub has urged the Johor state government to come clean on land acquisition plans in Pengerang, and warned that any attempt to conceal details from the public would eventually fail.
“Before this, we exposed that the land acquisition in Pengerang for the RAPID (Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development) project was not following procedures and this had been hidden from the people.
"What else is being hidden by the UMNO-BN government led by (Johor Menteri Besar) Ghani Othman?” he asked.
Salahuddin, the Kubang Kerian member of parliament, said Ghani should reveal all facts to the people affected by the land acquisition, especially those affected by the relocation of a cemetery in the area.
He also warned Ghani not to repeat the fiasco when tabling the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) Act 2007 (Act 664), which as exposed later by Malay professionals body ProWaris, had violated the Federal Constitution for undermining the national language, Islam and the country’s sovereignty.
The Johor state government had planned to acquire some 8,094ha of land in Pengerang for the development of the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), which will affect 3,122 people from 927 families.
Residents had until September 14 to state their case on government compensation for their acquired land and properties.
A mammoth rally is planned on September 30 in Pengerang, described as organisers as the residents' final chance to have their voice heard.
Earlier, Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa said the Pengerang issue was different from the Lynas and Bukit Koman controversies, both not affected by land acquisition.
