SUNGAI PETANI - A woman rubber tapper died of a gunshot wound and her son was injured after he was hacked during a clash involving a group of men near their house in Ladang Bukit Lembu, Gurun, last night.
K. Kalyani, 57, took a bullet in a cheek during the incident at about 11 pm while she was resting in front of the house with her husband and other members of her family.
Her husband, M. Thannimalai, 63, said several men on motorcycles and in cars came to an area near their house and started fighting.
"I heard a gunshot but did not realise that my wife was hit until she collapsed and started to bleed profusely," he told Bernama when approached at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here today.
He said their son, Kathiraven, 23, was injured after he was hacked during the incident. Kathiraven has been admitted to the hospital.
