KUANTAN, Dec 10 — One million Muslims in the country are on the waiting list to perform the Haj as the quota stipulates that only 28,000 pilgrims can perform the Haj each season, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.
He said that of that number, about 14,000 were above the age of 75.
As such, he advised those who had performed the Haj not to apply for it but to make way for those who had not gone to Mecca for the Haj.
“Our obligation as a Muslim is to perform the Haj only once because performing it more than once is optional. It’s better to make way for others who have not done so,” he said at a function here.
Jamil Khir said currently there were 7.9 million depositors of Tabung Haji with a cumulative fund of RM34.9 billion. — Bernama
