Apologise, Nurul tells NST

PKR leader Nurul Izzah Anwar claims her speech was misconstrued by the English daily with ill intention.
PETALING JAYA: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is demanding an apology from the New Straits Times for publishing a report that she claims was published with ill intent and deviated from her original speech that she delivered in Kuala Pilah yesterday.
“The report is inaccurate and deviated and it must be retracted. I demand the daily’s apology within 24 hours through the digital and print media.
“I have also instructed my lawyers to immediately initiate legal action against the newspaper – a BN and Umno’s propaganda tool that is published by New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad,” said Nurul who is also PKR vice-president in a press statement today.
She said this in reference to New Straits Times’ report published today entitled, “Nurul Izzah hits out at police”.
The report quoted her claiming that the police force main duty is to spy on all Malaysians.
“What is the job of the security forces? Their job is to spy on the rakyat. Their job is to spy on the PKR leaders. Their job, on the whole, is to ensure BN stays successful… until our borders in Lahad Datu, Sabah, were infiltrated.
“Just imagine, 200 terrorists managed to slip into the country and what was the response of the Home Minister (Hishamuddin Hussein)? His response was to give them drinks, kuih – muih and waited for 23 days before striking,” she was reported to have said.
She also stated that she is fully supporting the security forces who are involved in the military operation called Ops Daulat.
The operation is meant to detain a group of over 250 armed men claiming to be soldiers of a self-claimed Sulu sultan. The military offensive begin early this month even though the armed men intruded into Kampung Tanduo last month.
“I have never ever belittled the efforts undertaken by our security forces who have sacrificed their lives. I wish to stress here that the issue in question are the actions of certain politicians in Putrajaya.
“I share the opinion of Lt Gen (Rt) Abdul Ghafir who said that the failure in intelligence gathering especially regarding the Lahad Datu incident has happened because spying activities are focussed on the spying activities related to current national political developments,” said Nurul.
