BOMB THIS PLACE AND SLAUGHTER KIRAM?

KOTA KINABALU: A local businessman, who coincidently has the same name as the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu, has received numerous threats which affected his business.

Jamalul Kiram Datuk Mohd Zakaria, 56, (not related to the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu, Jamalul Kiram III), said he had received numerous threats following the ongoing battle in Lahad Datu.

Jamalul, a businessman from Kota Belud and owns a resort in Kundasang, Ranau told The Borneo Post yesterday that the threats were made through social network, Facebook, claiming that he had conspired with the intruders.

The Facebook site has received more than 1,000 ‘likes’ and close to 500 unpleasant comments before it was removed at 2.30pm on Sunday.

“Among the comments I received were ‘sembelih si Kiram’ (slaughter Kiram), ‘bomb jak nie tempat’ (bomb this place – referring to his resort in Kundasang) and many unpleasant remarks and comments,” he said.

To make matter worse, the social site had also uploaded photos of Jamalul’s resorts in Kundasang, which has affected his business. “Despite having the same name, I strongly deny having any relationship with the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu and any of his followers who had intruded into our country.

“Due to this incident, I have lodged a police report and have handed over all evidence so proper action can be taken against those who made such comments and threats in Facebook as well as to clear my name,” he said.

“I hope the relevant authority can take appropriate measure to address this matter because my family’s safety is the most important,” he said, revealing that his father, Datuk Mohd Zakaria Mahol, 89, is a former State Civil Service Commission staff and married to his mother, Aisah Teo Abdullah.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun confirmed a police report had been lodged and would be handed to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.

Jauteh said the people should not make any speculations as it would only cause harm to the party concerned.

“Do not make any speculations and statements without investigating it as it could bring harm to the respective party,” he said.

He also advised the users of public and social sites such as Facebook not to post unpleasant comments. (BP)
