Dr Mahathir, the former prime minister and ex-BN chairman said that Selangor needed to be saved from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to protect the position of the Malays and Bumiputeras. Mahathir is peddling his Project R, which is an old wine in a new bottle.
This is an interesting statement coming from the man who had also invented the Project IC. Those of you who are not familiar with the terms. Project R = Project Racism. Project IC refers to his grand plan to balance and overwhelm Sabah with Muslim voters even if it means giving Malaysian citizenship to low skilled Indonesian, Filipino, Pakistani etc. migrants. It is so easy to get a blue IC in Sabah that Sulu and Moro fighters are now claiming Sabah as their own.
Mahathir is probably contradicting himself big time here. He said PR is threatening the position of Malays and Bumiputeras but he had no qualm to add thousands of outsiders as 'Malays' and 'Bumiputeras' to share and compete with real genuine Malaysian Malays for resources and opportunities.
Granted, Malaysia as a country should encourage migration to its shores. But we have to be selective with our intake. This why the government sets up agencies like Talent Corporation etc. to attract brains and talents to our country. I believe militancy and ability to commit crime and terrorism are not listed as skills wanted in the list. We want those who can bring unique value proposition to the country.
It is good that the people of Selangor are not listening to Dr Mahathir. I am a proud resident of the state and would have voted for a PR candidate if I am registered here. I think MB Khalid Ibrahim has done a reasonably good job and he should be given a chance to help improve the state for another five years.
If there is someone we hope to send to permanent retirement, it would be politicians like Dr Mahathir. It is time to know when to move on. Mahathir is still influential within UMNO but it is not actually a very good sign for the party. It means that UMNO still cannot wean off the impact and implication of Mahathirism. Today, any incumbent president of UMNO cannot hope to remain in the chair if he does not get a tacit support from the grand master.
Thanks but no thanks. Mahathir should keep his Project R to himself. If anyone who can be accused to have caused great hurt to the Malays and Bumiputeras, it would be difficult for Dr Mahathir to avoid being blamed.
It would be impossible for anyone to do anything harmful to the Malays over the last 50 years apart from UMNO and its cronies. Definitely not the last 5 years under Khalid Ibrahim.
