Umno lying about hit-and-run accident, says victim's son

The family of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident involving an Umno truck in Manjung, Perak is unhappy with Lumut Umno Youth’s explanation over the incident.

They claim Lumut Umno division chief Mohd Shahril Yahaya’s denial that the driver and its occupants had fled the scene instead of helping the victim was dishonest.

Mohd Shahril had reported that the driver left the scene of the accident because he had been scared at the sight of tattooed men who were allegedly present nearby.

NONE“Actually, there were no tattooed men there whatsoever. And in the truck were two people, besides the driver.

“After the accident, two came out to remove the ‘dacing’ (BN) logos and Zambry’s photograph. After that, the driver fled and left the two men at the scene of the accident,” said Tan Yu Sing, who is one of the victim’s sons.

Tan flayed the local Umno leaders for not taking decisive action against those involved.

“As Umno leaders, you really should not let this pass. The one who had caused the accident ought to be punished,” he said.

“Don’t lie. Don’t be unfair. I will continue to seek justice for my mother,” said Tan.

He demanded that the police and Umno leaders take action, particularly against the driver.

Ngeh: Zambry should apologise

According to a China Press report on Sunday, the victim was returning from a rubber estate on a motorcycle when she wasstruck from behind by the speeding pickup truck.

The driver and occupants of the truck have been accused of trying to remove incriminating BN flags and stickers from the truck beforefleeing the scene without offering the victim their help.

NONEThe victim’s four children held a press conference last night at Sitiawan assemblyperson and Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham’s service centre.

“The children of the lady said they are dissatisfied and angry with the Umno Youth member for lying,” Ngeh (right) told Malaysiakini when contacted.

He stressed that Lumut Umno division chief and Perak MB Zambry Abdul Kadir should take responsibility for the incident and apologise to the family.

“At the press conference by the victim’s four children, they denied the presence of tattooed men at the scene. They said that only a Rela group was present,” he added.
