Where’s the Chinese school?

Serdang DAP MP Teo Nie Ching asks why the BN has yet to deliver on its 2008 election promise to build a Chinese school in Kajang.
KAJANG: Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching today questioned why the federal government has yet to fulfill its 2008 election promise to build the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kajang 2.
“What is the status of the construction? asked Teo. “Even if the school is built, Chinese educationist group, Dong Jiao Zhong have said that the community here needed an additional four primary schools.
“It is already 1,870 days since they made the promise. Where is the school? This is BN’s unkept promises,” the DAP MP told a press conference, accompanied by Kajang state assemblyman Lee Kim Sin of PKR and Bangi state assemblyman, Dr Shafie Abu Bakar of PAS.
On Jan 30 2008, the then MCA president Ong Ka Ting and the then Education Minister Hishamuddin Hussein announced the construction of six Chinese schools including this one in Kajang.
On March 12 last year,  Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong handed over a cheque worth RM4.5 million to the school building committee. He also instructed them to submit construction plans within a week so that it can be completed within 6 months.
However to date the six-acre site remains barren. Teo also said the school’s building committee, led by MCA members, had not submitted a proper plan to the Kajang municipal council (MPKJ).
“We are willing to assist the school building committee at the local council and state government level,” said Teo.
Lee added: “The construction of this school is against procedures. Normally, the construction would involve the Public Works Department which will offer the contract to a contractor.
“In the case of SJK (C) Kajang 2, the construction was given directly to the school building committee,” he added.
