WITHDRAW CHARGES IMMEDIATELY - PKR condemns move to charge Tian Chua

Parti Keadilan condemns the government’s move to charge our vice-president YB Tian Chua today and demand the charge be dropped.

Tian Chua is a victim of media assassination, as the combination of an actual quote and a series of alleged comments have been mashed together and then spread systematically by mainstream media to disparage the Batu MP, leading to this morning’s events.

Chua is now charged under Section 4(1) (b) of the Sedition Act 1948. Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak has stated he wants to repeal the Sedition Act, but this new charge suggests there is bad faith for the government has charged Chua under a law it beliefs to be anachronistic.

All out to embarrass Tian

Above everything, Chua is a public servant who loves his country, and has suffered over the years serving the Malaysian people, including security personnel. It is cruel to accuse him of taking the deaths of our military and police personnel in Sabah lightly.

This whole episode being a calculated political manoeuvre was further underscored when there was an attempt by the police to arrest Chua at the court cafeteria when the Batu MP had already shown up this morning at the court complex to face the charge. It was clearly a move to humiliate Chua further.

We demand the government drop the charge immediately.
