SG LIMAU Unlike other by-elections, there isn't much of a flyer war going on in Sg Limau since BN and PAS started their campaigns on Wednesday.
By Thursday, only one interesting anti-PAS flyer was seen at a BN organised event, such as the meet the people session at Felda, Simpang 3, attended by Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir (right).
Smack in page four under a reprint of a Sinar Harian report on BN candidate Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim, were two eye-catching photos.
One was of two DAP supporters carrying the party's flags while following a procession, accompanied by the words "WOW!!...Setiap Kali Penamaan Calon Pakatan Rakyat Tak Lupa Bawa Penyokong Seksi!"
(Every time during nomination, the Pakatan Rakyat candidate never forgets to bring along sexy supporters).
This is a direct hit on PAS, a conservative Islamic party, which would usually frown on such attire.
The photo next to it is more controversial where it shows a group of men wearing PAS green t-shirts sitting outside a female toilet.
It carried the headline ‘PAS tandas for all', mocking the party's slogan ‘PAS for all'.
Above it are words in yellow on a red background saying "PRK Sg Limau: Penyokong lelaki PAS takde sivik masuk tandas wanita!". (Sg Limau By-election: PAS male supporters are not civil - enter female toilet!)
The rest of the five-page flyer is dedicated to the 52 year old Sohaimi - two pages on his profile, with one headlined "Dari Guru Pondok ke Pensyarah Universiti" (from a village teacher to a university lecturer).
Another page is based on a Oct 22 Sinar Harian article with the heading ‘Kepimpinan ciri utama wakil rakyat' (Leadership is the main criteria for a people's representative) as opposed to one's knowledge in religious studies.

PAS remains unfazed
But PAS seems unfazed by the flyers.
"Don't entertain cheap publicity stunts," was all PAS vice-president and Sg Limau election director Mahfuz Omar could say, when asked.
On PAS side, the party has published a two-page newsletter introducing its candidate Mohd Azam Samat, 37, a religious school teacher.
In the same newsletter are articles on Mukhriz's poor leadership and his failure to govern Kedah effectively after five months in power, since May 5.
The newsletter, which features Sinar as its masthead, very similar to independent Malay tabloid Sinar Harian, also asked the question, "Hanya Wakil Rakyat BN boleh salur pembangunan?" (Only BN assemblyman can channel development?).
The newsletter appears rather tame and wordy compared to BN's as PAS leaders kept reminding their supporters to remain calm and non-provocative.

But at this point it is hard to say how things will turn out in Sg Limau in the next few days.
