Father did not pray for PAS victory, insists Jamil Khir
Minister in Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom insists that his father had not prayed for PAS to win the Sungai Limau by-election as claimed by PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar.
He said his father was only offering a prayer as a courtesy upon the visit of the PAS entourage - which included PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat and Mahfuz - to his house in Kampung Sedaka, Kedah recently.
"That's just Mahfuz' claim, but Haji Baharom (Ramli) has never said that," he said, accusing the PAS leader of resorting to "really low politics".
Jamil Khir added that the matter has put a lot of pressure on his 77-year-old father, who has been wheelchair bound for three years due to a stroke.
"My father said he feels pressured from a moral standpoint. When someone visits us, we recite a prayer," he said.
"When my father does that, PAS goes around saying he had prayed (for PAS to win)... It's not proper manners," said the minister.
When asked further, Jamil Khir refused to confirm talk that his father is a PAS member saying that is just Mahfuz talking.
Last Friday PAS organ Harakahdaily reported Mahfuz saying that Baharom had prayed for PAS to win the by-election and expressed desire to meet the party's deputy president Mohamad Sabu.
