Gerakan should dissolve and join MCA if it cannot regain support instead of blaming Perkasa, says the movement’s president Ibrahim Ali.
“This Gerakan, if they are not capable of regaining Chinese support, then dissolve and combine with MCA, they were a splinter MCA party anyway,” Ibrahim told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said this in response to Gerakan interim president Chang Ko Youn who yesterday called the right-wing movement as extremists who were not supported by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
“Perkasa was created after the 12th general election - in September 2008. By that time, Gerakan had already lost in Penang and many BN component parties like Gerakan and MCA also lost their seats.
“So how can they use Perkasa for punching bag as an excuse for their losses?” said Ibrahim.

‘Withdraw support’
He warned that if Gerakan continued to use Perkasa as its punching bag, the movement will ensure that support for the ailing party is withdrawn in the next general election.

Even if Gerakan is contesting against DAP, if support goes to DAP and DAP wins, DAP will still not be in the government.
“So it will not be a problem for us,” he said.
Ibrahim also took Gerakan to task for dragging Najib’s name into its tiff with Perkasa.
“This is putting the prime minister in a difficult position. If the prime minister does not support Perkasa means he does not support the Malays in Perkasa.
“That statement is irresponsible,” he said.
Ibrahim also cautioned that this “war” between Gerakan and Perkasa was the former’s own doing.
“I want to make it clear, we did not start the war with Gerakan, they started the war with Perkasa,” he said.
Chang was yesterday replaced by Mah Siew Keong, who was elected as Gerakan’s new president.
