Attorney-General's head must roll for Liong Sik's acquittal - Karpal

Former MCA president Ling Liong Sik is now a free man after he was acquitted by Kuala Lumpur High Court last week over his alleged role in cheating the government in relation to the RM12.5 billion fiasco in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

While Lim is off the hook, many leaders are blaming Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail for his failure to successfully prosecute the case.

“Losses of PKFZ were colossal. Gani has the worst record among the country’s AGs.

“He no longer has the moral authority to hold on to his post. He should resign but before that he should his explain on why the prosecution was so inept,” Karpal was quoted saying by news portal Free Malaysia Today.

The Bukit Gelugor MP said Gani had a poor record to carry out a successful prosecution in a high profile cases, and the Ling’s case had just proven that inability of him, yet again.

Karpal urged for answers on why no statement was taken from Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who he regarded as the “most vital and material witness of the case” because PKFZ scandal has taken place when Mahathir was the prime minister.

He questioned whether the move was deliberate done or it was part of Gani’s negligence.

Regardless, Karpal said the investigations on PKFZ must continue as Ling’s acquittal was not the end for the scandal.

Besides Karpal, DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong and DAP publicity chief Tony Pua had also called for Gani’s resignation.

Now, if Ling did not cheat the government, who did? And how did the PKFZ project cost balloon from RM1.1 billion to RM4.6 billion in less than a decade?
