BUT PERKASA IS GOVT-FUNDED & PART OF UMNO: Umno rep urges party to 'steer away' from extreme Malay group
GEORGE TOWN - An Umno assemblyman urged his party today to steer clear of Malay rights group Perkasa following an invasion into the Penang state assembly on Wednesday, pointing to their presence in “many incidents”.
Interrupting Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s (DAP — Air Putih) winding-up speech this morning, Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain (BN — Teluk Bahang) then suggested Umno outright reject Perkasa.
“I have seen many incidents happened when they are involved so it is best we steer away from them,” he said today.
In his speech, Lim condemned the shocking intrusion into House on Wednesday by a group of Umno Youth members searching for DAP’s Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer.
In the incident, the Umno Youth members were accompanied by members from various non-governmental organisations including the local chapter of Perkasa.
The demonstration at the state legislative assembly on Wednesday and again yesterday at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur by Umno Youth members were sparked by Rayer saying “celaka, celaka, celaka Umno” during his debate at the state assembly on Tuesday.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (2nd right) speaks to Umno assemblymen during a break at the Penang State assembly meeting on May 22, 2014. Umno assemblyman Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain today suggested Umno outright reject Perkasa due to their presence in 'many incidents'.
BN state assemblymen had demanded that Rayer retract those words and apologise but he refused and said he used “celaka” as a translation of “damn it”, adding that it is also often used in jest.
Lim today said the Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang already took action on Tuesday by issuing Rayer a stern warning, which is a step away from ejecting him from the hall.
Shah Headan then said the remarks had repercussions beyond the assembly, and reiterated the BN assemblymen’s demand for Rayer to retract his words and apologise.
“All this happened because Rayer had insulted and used vulgar words against those who are not here and could not defend themselves against his accusations,” he said. -Malaymail
