An Umno supreme council member has lambasted Bersih for suggesting that there could have been money politics involved the political imbroglio in Terengganu.
According to Umno Online, Ibrahim Abu Shah reprimanded the electoral watchdog for making such remarks without proper evidence.
"The statement reveals Bersih's unjust and lopsided principles.
"They never made any statements regarding PKR's party polls where elements of money politics existed," he said.
Bersih had urged anyone with information of bribery for political affiliation in the two-day Terengganu political debacle to blow the whistle.
The watchdog said this as the "speedy resolution" to the momentarily hung state legislative assembly which gave rise to suspicion of underhanded tactics.
Ibrahim Abu, former vice-chancellor of UiTM, urged Bersih to conduct introspection before pointing finger at others.
"Before you criticise and make allegations against others, especially Umno, look at yourself first.
"Bersih must cleanse itself of all the elements of cheating, bribery and injustice in the PKR elections before reprimanding others.
"This is like an ustaz (religious preacher) who tells others to do good, when he himself doesn’t do the things that he has asked others to do.
"He will only become a laughing stock. This is the same for Bersih," he added.
Opposition cannot transform
On another matter, Ibrahim Abu conceded that all governments have weaknesses and commit mistakes, because they are managed by humans.
"Humans are not perfect. But as long as the government initiates efforts to fix and overcome the weaknesses and mistakes, this is good," he said.
According to the Umno leader, this is what Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is doing with his transformation agenda.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Ibrahim Abu said such initiatives have not been carried out by the Pakatan Rakyat.
"Transforming for the better is not in their dictionary... There is no effort to correct their weaknesses and mistakes.
"That is why we never see the opposition changing," he said, adding that their inflated egos prevented them from admitting mistakes.
"But in Umno, it is different. Najib was noble enough to apologise on behalf of the governments mistakes and weaknesses as well as promising to improve...," he said.
