Heng sees red over 'need not consult MCA' claim

Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie today slammed two Umno MPs for declaring that Umno need not consult MCA on the implementation of hudud in the country.

As such matters concern national policy, Heng said all BN component parties, including MCA, should be consulted under the “spirit of BN".

"It is clear that they both have yet to understand the practice of consensus under the spirit of BN, as well as the history of the formation of Malaysia," she said in a statement in reference to Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin (left) and Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul.

"We will continue with our stand against the implementation of hudud law as this is our responsibility to the rakyat and nation, and nobody can deny us this right," she added.

Heng said that MCA had concluded that hudud goes against the federal constitution based on thorough research, and urged the Umno MPs to respect the fact that non-Muslims have the right to oppose the law.

"Thus, both Bung Moktar and Zahidi Zainul should know that when it concerns national policies, every citizen of Malaysia has a say, no matter if they are political parties, NGOs or ordinary people," she said.

Bung and Zahidi were quoted saying so in a Free Malaysia Todayreport yesterday, in responding to Heng's call for BN to take action against cabinet ministers Jamil Khir Baharom and Mustapa Mohamed for expressing support for hudud.

In the same report, Zahidi also said MCA should even "rethink its membership" in BN following the Chinese-based party's opposition to hudud.
